Hosted by Winnie Irangabiye, founder of Post-Natal Kindness, the series highlights the realities of the post-natal period through personal stories, expert guidance and meaningful conversations.
In this episode, Our Founder Winnie Irangabiye speaks with Samantha Odion, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist specialized in Perinatal mental health Samantha explains how pregnancy, childbirth and the transition into motherhood can affect a mother’s emotional well-being—even when the baby is healthy and the birth is considered successful. Together, they discuss birth trauma, baby blues, perinatal mental health warning signs, matrescence and the pressure mothers may feel to quickly “bounce back” after childbirth. They also explore the realities of Black maternal mental health, the importance of self-advocacy and how families can offer meaningful practical and emotional support during the post-natal season.
